Lots of efforts are put in to overcome the threat of damage to these heritage in such a rapidly developing economy. World Heritage sites include forts and monuments, temple complexes and historic excavated sites of India.

An immense mausoleum of white marble, the Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage. The temples at Khajuraho, built during the Chandella dynasty, strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture. Built during the second half of the 16th century by the Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri includes one of the largest mosques in India, the Jama Masjid.
