Dev Prayag - The Holy Abode

Ashish Taneja
Visited: April 24th, 2006

Last year in my summer vacation I visited Dev Prayag, one of the most important pilgrimage destinations of Hindus nestling in the foothills of Himalayas. It is a very beautiful place situated at the bank of river Ganga in Uttranchal. This place is a meeting point of the rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. These two rivers amalgamate to become Ganga. This place is about 80 km far from Haridwar, a well known city of Hindus. So Dev Prayag is a mountain region, full of joy, adventure, full of life.

People have friendly nature and are always willing to help you. There is a old temple of Sri Ram and Kali Mata. It's a valley of joy and love. I took up trekking up to the temple shrine that took about 2 hours, it was just magical, the snow-clad Himalayan mountain ranges, the green vegetation and the shrine environment. I took a holt at Ganga bank, that relaxed me and generated a sense of piece. I will definitely add that everyone could at-least visit this place once in his lifetime.
