As per the legends and Hindu holy scriptures, after Sati had her immolated herself on the alter of Daksha’s Yajna, Lord Shiva had been so much infuriated that he began to stage the, Tandava’ that is the dance of destruction, while carrying the corpse of dead Sati. It was then following the implorations made by the gods, that lord Vishnu had cut the corpse of Sati in to several pieces with the help of his discus.
