Prior to advent of Britishers, This region was inhabited by Gurkhas under leadership of Amarsingh thapa. The whole region of Mussoorie had been brought under their reign and remained for a longer span of time. Nevertheless, after advent of Britishers, a prolonged war took place between the gurkhas and British army and which ended in the victory of the later with the immediate consequence of establishment of British rule in the region.
