Hence, he devised a plan to foil their bid to betroth. He invited them to meet them at the secluded place in the mid of the night as he foretold it to be the only auspicious time for their marriage. Overjoyed lord shiva hardly had reached Vazukkamparai, covering a distance of 5 KM from Suchindram, when taking guise of a cock, sage narad began crowing, there by making the false impression of day break and thus the marriage was foiled. Later on when enamored by the beauty of goddess, banasura put forth the marriage proposal before the goddess, she pronto brought out her shining long sword and clave him into twain. It is believed that since then the goddess has been in wait for the arrival of Lord shiva to wed her.
