Pune History

This city has originally been the empire for several brave Maratha kings and of them the most prominent figure, whose name at once flashes in the mind is “the great Shivaji”. The much exaggerated and talked about fort of shivnery can be found here, wherein, the infancy of Shivaji had been spent and this is also the birth place of Shivaji. Nevertheless, subsequent to the decisive battle of Panipat in 1761 between Marathas and Britishers, Marathas had to face the terrible defeat at the hands of English forces and thereafter, their kingdom declined giving way to the alien rule, established by Britishers.
