Khandala and Lonavala are the twin hill stations, which are most visited and much popular tourist destinations in the state of Maharashtra. This is the region embedded in Sahyadris mountainous ranges and is situated at height of 625 meters. The region has basketful of see-worthy spots and several splendorous scenic sites to offer to the city dwellers who flock the region to evade the tumultuous city life.This is a kingdom of hills, which has in its treasure several undulating tracts, deep ravines, hilly slops carpeted with the densely grown verdure vegetation and the like. Origin of this spot in unknown to the world, yet the first ruler having a reign over this region had been great Maratha king Shivaji. He had kept well organized military in this region. After decline of Shivaji’s empire, the reign of the hilly region shifted into the hands of Peshwas, who ruled over it for some time until advent of Britishers, who later took over this region under their ruling from Peshwas.
