History of Maharashtra:
Shivaji Raje Bhonsale is the founder of Maratha Empire and he was the one, who brought all the scattered Marathi speaking people under one roof. He was a very able and competent warrior who carried out the prolonged fights against Mughals prior to achieving the autonomy and setting up his empire. However, prior to him this state had been under reign of Mughal rulers. Maratha power saw the rise under leadership of the great Shivaji, in a time when the power of Muslim rulers had been touching the peak. Aurangzeb for all his life kept trying to defeat Shivaji, but all his efforts ended up into failure. Not only this, in this battle only that he fought against Maratha for 25 years, he failed and eventually died putting a full stop to the ever advancing Muslim Dominion. After some time of Peshwa reign, haplessly India again fell in the hands of foreigners after the misfortunate defeat of Marathas against British in the 3rd Panipat war.
