Munnar implies conflux of 3 rivers as this is the place where three rivers viz. amalgamate with each other losing their distinctiveness. The whole of region was put to use particularly for cultivating the tea plants. In times of yore, many tribal people would inhabit the region such as Pallayers, Kaders, Kuruvas, Ooralers and so on.
