Goa is the Indian state that is based in western Ghat of the region called “Konkan”. This state had earlier been under the dominion of Portuguese. The state is very famous for being interspersed with scores of sea beaches, holy places, flora and fauna and so on. History of Goa:

Originally, Goa had been a part of the Mauryan Empire established by the great king Ashoka. How did it derive its name has been a matter of controversy and several scholars have put forth various theories. Also, there have been some references found in the ancient Vedas and scriptures. In the great epic of Mahabharata, this place has been referred as Goparashtra or Govarashtra that stands for “country for cow herds”. Also, several other theories have been proposed to explain the basis of its nomenclature. The ruling of this region continued changing the hands and many great warriors and rulers arose and faded out, with the constantly ticking time. Later on, Goa also had been a part of the Bahmani sultanate. Later, it was conquered by Vijayanagar empire. Goa also had the part of Bijapur sultanate of Adil shah for some time and finally into the hands of Portuguese after fall of Adilshahi sultanate.

Best time to tour Goa:

Being flanked by the water bodies like Arabian Sea and others, Goa witnesses hot and humid climate, quite akin to the climatic conditions of Mumbai. May is the month, when the sun beats hardest in Goa. Monsoon makes entry with the starting weeks of the month of June to bring sooth from the scalding heat of summer. Rain continues shedding torrents till the month of September. Winter reigns supreme from mid December and till February with temperature fluctuating between 21 and 28 degree Celsius.
