Delhi at a glance:

Delhi is the capital city of the country, India and population-wise, it ranks second being Mumbai first. History of Delhi:

The archeological studies have revealed that many of the relics of the earliest settlements in this city are linked with the Mauryan Empire. Thereafter, the city was subjected to number of foreign invasions. Nevertheless, the first mighty empire that emerged in the city was that of Delhi sultanate, the foundation of which was laid by Qutbuddin Aibak after defeat of Prithviraj Chauhan, the great Rajput Hindu ruler of the time, at the hands of Muhammad ghori. The last ruler of Delhi Sultanate was Ibrahim Lodhi, who was invaded and slain in the powerful invasion made by Babur. It is from this period that the foundation of Mughal Empire in India was laid, which lasted till the reign of last Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and ultimately it fell in the hands of Britishers. Delhi is comprised of 2 distinctive regions i.e. old Delhi which had ever served to be the capital for Muslim empire and New Delhi, created during British era, by British architect Edwin Lutyens. It is also believed that Indraprastha, which is much exaggerated in the great epic of Mahabharata for having been the abode of pandavas, had been here only.

Best time to tour Delhi:

Delhi city is marked with the extreme climatic conditions. Summer lasts from the month of April and till July and chilly season continues being felt from December and till January. The temperature continues fluctuating between 25 to 45 degree Celsius in the course of summer and during the winter the drop in temperature is witnessed that keeps varying between 22 and 5 degree Celsius.
